Eco-Etch Pro™ 2 oz Sample Application Guide
Follow these simple steps to perform an accurate test patch and experience how Eco-Etch Pro safely and effectively profiles your concrete.
1. Prepare Your Test Patch
Select a small, inconspicuous area of your concrete to test (about the size of a standard tile). Ensure this spot is completely free of any existing sealers, paints, dirt, or deep oil stains. Surface barriers will block the etcher from reaching the calcium and lime in the concrete, preventing a reaction.
2. Apply the Sample
Pour the 2 oz sample evenly over your prepared test patch. Use it at full strength to get the most accurate baseline for your concrete's profiling needs. You should immediately observe a white foaming action upon contact—this visual cue confirms the organic chemistry is actively reacting with the concrete.
3. Let it Dwell (Keep it Wet!)
Allow the solution to dwell on the surface for 5 to 15 minutes. Crucial step: The test area must remain wet for the entire dwell time to continue working. If the solution begins to dry prematurely, mist it lightly with a spray bottle of water to reactivate the etching process.
4. Scrub and Agitate
Once your dwell time is complete, use a small, stiff-bristled brush to firmly scrub the test area. This agitation helps loosen the micro-layers of concrete dust, clay, and efflorescence that the etcher has broken down.
5. Rinse Thoroughly
Rinse the spot completely with clean water. The introduction of fresh water naturally neutralizes the etching action. Make sure all residual concrete dust is flushed away, leaving a clean, bare surface.
6. Perform the "Water Test"
Once the test patch is dry, lightly spray or sprinkle a few drops of clean water onto the surface to check the porosity.
- Success: If the water absorbs immediately and darkens the concrete, the pores are successfully opened and the surface is ready for maximum coating adhesion!
- Troubleshooting: If the water beads up or sits on the surface, you either have an existing invisible sealer blocking the etch, or your specific concrete requires a longer dwell time/second application to achieve the correct profile.
