Not sure which color is right for your project? Try a 2 oz Color Sample of our SoyCrete Zero-VOC Concrete Stain. This sample allows you to test our advanced bio-based, non-toxic formula on your specific concrete surface to ensure the perfect look before committing to a larger order. Because concrete porosity varies, applying this sample directly to your prepared substrate is the best way to see exactly how our semi-transparent, natural stone-like finish will perform in your space.
How to Apply & Test Your Color Sample
1. Choose Your Test Area Carefully
Because concrete porosity varies drastically from slab to slab, you must test the sample on your actual project surface for an accurate color read. Choose an inconspicuous area—such as inside a closet, under a future cabinet footprint, or in a hidden corner.
2. Prep the Test Spot
The test area must be prepared exactly as you plan to prepare the rest of the floor. Ensure the spot is completely clean, dry, and free of any old sealers or paints. The concrete must be porous enough to absorb water for the stain to penetrate.
3. Apply the Stain
- Shake your 2 oz sample bottle well to ensure the bio-based pigments are fully mixed.
- Using a small foam brush, rag, or a miniature spray bottle, apply a very thin, even coat to the test area. Do not let the liquid pool. Rub the stain into the surface to remove any surface residue.
- Allow the first coat to dry completely (about 1 to 2 hours). If you desire a deeper color, apply a second thin coat. Remember, the porosity dictates how much stain it can absorb.
- Optional but recommended: To see the true final color, wipe a damp sponge over the dried test spot, or apply a dab of your chosen clear topcoat. Clear sealers will always "pop" and deepen the dry stain color.
